WHY MILK ISN’T HEALTHY

Harvard Declares Dairy NOT Necessarily Part ofa Healthy Diet

The Harvard School of Public Health sent a strong message to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and nutrition experts everywhere with the recent release of its “Healthy Eating Plate” food guide.  The university was responding to the USDA’s new MyPlate guide for healthy eating, which replaced the outdated and misguided food pyramid.
Harvard’s nutrition experts did not pull punches, declaring that the university’s food guide was based on sound nutrition research and more importantly, not influenced by food industry lobbyists.  The greatest evidence of its research focus is the absence of dairy products from the “Healthy Eating Plate” based on Harvard’s assessment that “…high intake can increase the risk of prostate cancer and possibly ovarian cancer.”  The Harvard experts also referred to the high levels of saturated fat in most dairy products and suggested that collards, bok choy, fortified soy milk, and baked beans are safer choices than dairy for obtaining calcium, as are high quality supplements.
Kudos to Harvard for promoting greater consumption of vegetables and fruits, as well as healthier protein options such as fish, beans or nuts.  And kudos to Harvard for ignoring the lobbyists and showing the USDA what healthy eating is all about.

RESEARCH ON MILK
I was also quite shocked by a site www.notmilk.com and the incredible number of sicknesses and diseases that are now associated with milk…and testimony from quite a few mothers about drastically reducing or even completely eliminating sickness in their kids when they stopped using dairy products.

MILK PROBLEMS from www.notmilk.com (there is MUCH, MUCH more research at the website).

·        “Milk allergies are very common in children… They are the leading cause of the chronic ear infections that plague up to 40% of all children under the age of six.”  Julian Whitaker, M.D., “Health & Healing,” October, 1998, Volume 8, No. 10

·        “Cow’s milk allergy is associated with recurrent otitis media (ear infection) during childhood.”  Acta Otolaryngol 1999;119(8)

·        “Concerning ear infections, You just don’t see this painful condition among infants and children who aren’t getting cow’s milk into their systems.”  William Northrup, M.D., Natural Health July, 94

·        Cow’s milk has become a point of controversy among doctors and nutritionists. There was a time when it was considered very desirable, but research has forced us to rethink this recommendation… dairy products contribute to a surprising number of health problems (including) chronic ear problems…”  Benjamin Spock, M.D., “Child Care,” 7th Edition

·        “In reality, cow’s milk, especially  processed cow’s milk, has been linked to a variety of health problems,  including: mucous production, hemoglobin loss, childhood diabetes, heart  disease, atherosclerosis, arthritis, kidney stones, mood swings,  DEPRESSION, irritability, allergies.”

·        The Townsend Medical Letter  noted the following in May of  1995:

·        “At least 50% of all children in the United States are allergic to cow’s milk, many undiagnosed. Dairy products are the leading cause of food allergy, often revealed by diarrhea, constipation, and fatigue. Many cases of asthma and sinus infections are reported to be relieved and even eliminated by cutting out dairy.” Natural Health, July, 1994, Nathaniel Mead, MD

·        “About 20% of babies suffer from colic, or abdominal cramping and gas. Milk proteins may be one of the leading causes of this digestive disorder.”  Pediatrics, 1991; 87 (4):4

·        “Chronic diarrhea is the most common gastrointestinal symptom of intolerance of cow’s milk among children…cow’s milk can also cause severe perianal lesions with pain on defecation and consequent constipation in young children. In young children, chronic constipation can be a manifestation of intolerance of cow’s milk.” N Engl J Med, 1998 Oct, 339:16, 1100-4

·        Cow’s milk allergy (CMA) is a common disease of infancy and childhood. An appropriate cow’s milk substitute is necessary for feeding babies with CMA.”  J Allergy Clin Immunol, 1999 Jun, 103:6

·        “Most formula fed infants developed symptoms of ALLERGIC rejection to cow milk proteins before one month of age. About 50-70% experienced rashes or other skin symptoms, 50-60 percent gastrointestinal symptoms, and 20-30 percent respiratory symptoms. The recommended therapy is to avoid cow’s milk.”

·        Florida researcher, Robert Cade, M.D., and his colleagues have identified a milk protein, casomorphin, as the probable cause of attention deficit disorder and autism. They found Beta-casomorphin-7 in high concentrations in the blood and urine of patients with either schizophrenia or autism. (AUTISM, 1999, 3)

·        “I would call milk perhaps the most  unhealthful vehicle for calcium that one could possibly imagine, which is  the only thing people really drink it for, but whenever you challenge  existing dogma…people are resistant.” Neal Barnard, M.D.

·        “Cow’s milk in the past has always been  oversold as the perfect food, but we are now seeing that it isn’t the  perfect food at all and the government really shouldn’t be behind any  efforts to promote it as such.” Benjamin Spock,  M.D.

·        “Cow’s milk is not suited for human consumption.?Milk causes constipation, biliousness, coated tongue, headache, and these are the symptoms of intestinal auto-intoxication.?Soybean milk, and nut milks are excellent substitutes, and have practically the same analyses, and the danger of disease is removed.”  Jethro Kloss, “Back to Eden,” 1939

·        “Symptoms of milk-protein allergy include cough, choking, gasping, nose colds, asthma, sneezing attacks…” Annals of Allergy, 1951; 9

·        “…62.7% of the children were confirmed to be allergic to milk…” (153 hospitalized infants with pneumonia or bronchitis were tested) Roczniki Akademii Medycznej 1995; 40(3)(Polish Journal)

·        “Those who consumed cows milk were fourteen times more likely to die from diarrhea-related complications and four times more likely to die of pneumonia than were breast-fed babies. Intolerance and allergy to cow’s milk products is a factor in sudden infant death syndrome.” The Lancet, vol. 344, November 5, 1994

·        “There was an increased frequency of wheezing and constipation and a higher frequency of delayed reactions…infants with persistent cow’s milk protein intolerance exhibited atopic disease: asthma, rhinitis, eczema.” Clin Exp Allergy, 1998 Jul, 28:7

·        Scientists at the University of Palermo discovered that constipation symptoms returned to a controlled group of infants 48 to 72 hours after they were placed on a regimen of cow’s milk proteins.  Their determination was that chronic constipation in infants has an allergenic pathogenesis.   This study was published in the January, 1995 issue of the Journal of Pediatrics.

·        The key factor in breast cancer growth is a powerful growth hormone manufactured by the human body called IGF-I. That same exact hormone (a miracle of nature) is manufactured within a cow’s body. Every sip of milk, bite of cheese, and spoonful of yogurt contains that hormone. http://notmilk.com/forum/678.html

·        “Formula fed infants developed symptoms of allergic rejection to cow milk proteins before one month of age. The majority of infants tested had two or more symptoms. About 50-70 percent experienced rashes … or other skin symptoms, 50-60 percent gastrointestinal symptoms, and 20-30 percent respiratory symptoms. The recommended therapy is to avoid milk.” – Pediatr.-Allergy-Immunol., 1994, 5(5 Suppl)

·        “Allergy to cow’s milk proteins…10 hours after milk intake the patient presented serous rhinorrea, sneezing and nasal blockade.” – Investig Allergol Clinical Immunol, 1998 Jul, 8:4

PUS IN MILK??

Pus cell limits in milk (not more than 50 million per cup allowed…Hello…why are ANY allowed???)
http://www.notmilk.com/lawbreakers.html

In November of 2007 the California Milk Processors Board threatened suit against PETA for its “Got Pus?” parody. The lawsuit did not get filed and PETA did not stop its “Got Pus?” campaign.

Charles Knouse, DO, general practice physician, stated in a Aug. 18, 2009 e-mail to ProCon.org:

“While the use of the word ‘pus’ is admittedly pejorative, it is nonetheless an appropriate word. To say ‘white blood cells’ would not convey the emotional – nor the holistic – totality of the real situation. In reality, hormone treated cows, in confined spaces, over-bred for production, denied fresh grass and over-milked, are going to be stressed and are going to have far higher rates of mastitis [infected teats] than well-cared for cows (and goats) at an organic dairy devoted to raw milk – and this WILL mean far higher counts of inflammatory cells and inflammation products in the milk – ‘pus’…

A COUPLE TESTIMONIES:
Six years ago I developed a strong desire to ensure that my family was receiving the best nutrition possible. I realized that what most people think of as ‘healthy’ was actually harmful to the body. I prayed that God would bring others into my life that had the same desire, and He lovingly and quickly answered my prayer. How wonderful it has been. Six years ago, our third son was having continual ear infections and had been on antibiotics for months. All three boys had suffered ear infections, colds, constant runny noses, etc. After changing our diet [to the Hallelujah Diet], all ailments quickly disappeared. We have had two more sons since that time, and I am happy to say that they have never had ear infections and have rarely ever been sick. What a blessing this lifestyle change has been. It is also wonderful to see the boys (ages 2-10 years) encouraging other children and even adults to eat healthy. Thank you for your ministry and God bless you!”  from Hallelujah Acres (Baptist?) www.hacres.com

I think and speak clearer since I cut the dairy out. I can breathe better and perform at a better rate, and my voice is clearer. I can explore different things with my voice that I couldn’t do because of my meat and dairy ingestion. I am proud and blessed to be a vegetarian, everything became clear.
