💰The Multi-Trillion Dollar Solution to Global Crises 💰
How God’s principles built into churches are by far the best answers to modern crises!
- “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT
- “God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 3:10
- “The Lord of Heaven…said, “Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession.” Zechariah 2:8 NLT

Headlines of corporate media often focus on religious scandals, but they rarely report how many lives are saved and protected from abuse, suicide, crimes and other evils and how many lives are changed by coming to know, love and follow Jesus.
They also do not report the staggering, life-saving economic reality: Active, biblical churches are the most powerful engines of socio-economic stability on the planet.
Economics is not detached from the Bible. There are over 2,000 Bible verses on economics and it is crucial to expand evangelism, missions, Christian education, science, justice and more.
Many scientists are realizing more and more how stunning the beneficial effect of biblical churches is (some churches have rejected large parts of the Bible and lose benefits or even cause harm. But the more Bible principles a church follows, the more benefits there are).
For example, faith-based organizations contribute nearly $1.2 trillion in value to the U.S. economy every year (Grim, 2021; https://religiousfreedomandbusiness.org/1-2-trillion-religious-economy-in-us).
That’s just one part of a far bigger mammoth beneficial contribution of churches to society. This article is focused on calculating the benefits to society in economic terms. It’s very difficult because what price do you put on preventing a suicide, saving a marriage, educating a child for live long happiness and contribution to society and a myriad of other things children do. But economists have tried their best and the research below is what they have found. But there are way over 100 benefits to being part of a biblical, healthy church (other webpages will be online soon about that**).
For believers, this massive economic footprint is merely one arm of a much deeper, eternal mission. Beyond these material benefits, the church’s primary impact is on eternal life, nurturing the spiritual powers and character necessary for both service in this world and the “higher joy of wider service in the world to come”. This holistic approach to godliness—incorporating mental, physical, and spiritual health—not only addresses modern crises like energy and environmental stress but also promises benefits that span “the whole period of existence possible to man”.
To sustain this dual impact, there is a critical need for financial resources to advance the Gospel. Tithe, generous offerings and investing in the most beneficial ways possible on earth, in biblical churches, are essential to:
- Advance Missions and Build Churches: Funding the “centrifugal force” of global evangelism, enabling the church to reach every nation and tribe.
- Empower Education: Building schools that serve as “communities of discipleship,” where students are more than twice as likely to deepen their spiritual commitment and sense of calling.
- Fund Creation and Religious Science Research: Supporting specialized entities like the Geoscience Research Institute (GRI) and the Faith and Science Council, which provide grants for research in biology, geology, and paleontology to discover the underlying harmony between nature and the biblical record. This is crucial for many reasons, but especially because Darwinism is the #1 reason why people in America lose faith in God now (see www.creationcall.org/why).
- JUSTICE: Churches have often been the the first and primary pioneers of the majority of progress in justice and human rights, protesting and exposing the worst evils of society. This is because churches believe that every human being is created in the image of God and created to do good works (Eph. 2:10). People suffering from injustice are often prevented from fulfilling the purpose for which God created them. And so biblical churches have always fought very hard against injustice in various ways, sometimes by helping individuals resist tyranny, sometimes by working with societies to help people who have been exploited or harmed, sometimes by protesting government injustices and in many other ways.
And much more.
SDAs have been at the forefront of all these efforts from our very beginnings and into the present.
Ultimately, the investment in these ministries is an eternal one, transforming lives today while preparing a people for the kingdom to come. Some more Bible verses on the spiritual benefits of the church are in this article: “10 Key Bible Verses on the Church”

📉 The Crises: A World Devastated by Greed
The modern world is being drained by what the Bible calls the “root of all kinds of evil” (1 Tim. 6:10).
- The Wealth Gap: Since 1975, $80 trillion has been siphoned from the bottom 90% of Americans to the top 1% (Price, 2025; https://www.rand.org/pubs/working_papers/WRA516-2.html).
- Global Drain: The “Global North” siphoned $152 trillion from the “Global South” through unequal exchange between 1960 and 2017 (Hickel et al., 2021; https://doi.org/10.1080/13563467.2021.1899153).
- “Sacrifice Zones”: Former war correspondent Chris Hedges warns that corporate greed has turned American neighborhoods into “sacrifice zones” where human beings are discarded for profit. (2015; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w-DVGWVhIw)
- Tax-Exempt Attacks: Some people, such as Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), are calling for the removal of the tax-exempt status of churches. 🛡️ Individual congregations, denominations, and religious aid organizations can defend against this by sharing research that proves that if congregations disappeared, the loss to the city would be enormous📉. They can also win grants to aid the profoundly valuable work of the church.
There are many more crises our world is facing, but this article is focusing on economic issues.
📈 1. The “Halo Effect”: Quantifying Church Value
Dr. Ram Cnaan is an agnostic scientist, but he decided to study into the value of churches for their communities in the Halo Project (https://haloproject.ca) and he was very surprised to find that churches provide a massive Return on Investment (ROI). For every $1 a church spends, the community receives an average of **$3.39 to $5.02 in tangible benefits. That’s 339%-502% in benefits every year. Compare that to the measily less than 1% your bank offers or the 5-10% from investing in stocks.
For those who understand the value of God’s principles, or even just math and economics, it is far wiser to invest in churches than in any other investment on earth, which adds another powerful reason to follow Jesus instruction to store and lay up treasures in heaven (Matt. 6:19-21), because godliness has major benefits for eternal life, but also in this life (1 Tim. 4:8).
Other researchers have greatly expanded Dr. Cnaan’s research, sometimes in partnership with him and found over 49 benefits to churches (and they say there are more they haven’t studied yet). They measured the value across seven critical areas:
- 🫂 Individual Impact: Suicide prevention, counseling, more and better marriages, drug use prevention, crime reduction, etc. $8,448,425
- 🛍️Community Development: job aid, housing initiatives, creation care, etc. $1,320,000
- ❤️ Social Capital and Care: Food banks, helping refugees/immigrants, volunteer hours, clothing drives, etc. $3,099,037
- 🎓 Education: improved grades, daycare, tutoring, K-12 schools, etc. $8,580,320
- 💸 Jobs: job creation, local buying, salaries and local operational expenditures, etc. $28,026,145
- 🧲 Magnet Effect: Revenue from weddings, funerals, and community events. $2,283,772
- 🌳 Open Space: Value of gardens/lawns/fields for families, sports/games, celebrations. $92,479
The Toronto Study: 10 congregations generated $45 million in value. One church of just 50 people contributed $729,000 annually—averaging $14,580 per worshipper (Wood Daly, 2016; https://www.cardus.ca/research/spirited-citizenship/research-report/valuing-torontos-faith-congregations).
🗣️ Real-Life Testimonies: Faith in Action
- Ramon and Shandy Tengkano share how they chased wealth, but didn’t feel really happy or satisfied with life. They came back to God and the SDA church, found each other and got married. They decided to give up their lives of luxury and spend their time knowing Jesus more deeply, work with their church to share the gospel and helping people in need. Then they found real happiness and satisfaction in life! See esp. ~46:30+.

- On Marriage: “We were at the lawyer’s office to sign the papers. Our pastor challenged us to apply the biblical principle of ‘dying to self’ for 30 days. It changed the entire atmosphere of our home. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary.” — S. & T. (Marriage Restoration)
🌍 2. The Missionary Dividend: Building Nations
While critics sometimes attack missionary work, peer-reviewed research shows it is the single largest factor in the health and civil society of modern nations.
- Democracy & Liberty: Dr. Robert Woodberry (2012; https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/american-political-science-review/article/abs/missionary-roots-of-liberal-democracy/3D96CF5CB2F7FEB19B1835393D084B9A) discovered that “Conversionary Protestants” (independent of colonial governments) have not just been beneficial to society, they are the single largest factor in the health of nations, driving democracy, literacy, the rule of law, the spread of religious liberty, education/science, human rights, printing and more.
· 🗣️ Real-Life Testimonies: Faith in Action
- Mass Literacy: Missionaries promoted mass education and printing because they believed everyone should read the Bible. This became the foundation for social mobility and economic development.
- Stability: Woodberry found that missions explain about half of the global variation in democracy outside Europe, outperforming geography or colonial policy.

See how your 13th Sabbath Offering is bringing practical help, nutrition education, and hope—giving children a chance to grow strong and thrive. https://am.adventistmission.org/mission-spotlight?lang=en&video=en-2026-1-week-4 - One Toe at a Time
Every 20 minutes, someone in the Pacific loses a limb to diabetes—but hope is rising. Discover how the 10,000 Toes Campaign, made possible by the 13th Sabbath Offering, is transforming lives and communities across the South Pacific—one toe at a time. https://am.adventistmission.org/mission-spotlight?lang=en&video=en-2026-1-week-1 - Breaking Drug Addiction: The “Center of Influence” (Philippines) In many urban centers, SDA missionaries set up “Centers of Influence” that offer “Breathe Free” smoking cessation and drug recovery programs.
The Testimony: Jun, a long-time drug addict in a high-crime district, stumbled into an SDA-run lifestyle center. Through a combination of hydrotherapy, plant-based nutrition, and spiritual mentorship provided by the mission team, he achieved total sobriety. He now leads a community garden that provides clean food for his neighborhood. - Stopping Child Trafficking-”Keep Girls Safe” (Thailand): In Northern Thailand, poverty and lack of citizenship make young girls prime targets for sex traffickers. Through the Keep Girls Safe project (an SDA missionary initiative), girls are provided with a safe dormitory, education, and legal advocacy.
Naree (name changed) was being sold by her own relatives to a “broker.” SDA missionaries intervened, brought her to the shelter, and put her through school. She is now a nurse, breaking the cycle of poverty and exploitation in her village and helping protect other girls from trafficking.

What Seventh-day Adventists Can Do about Sex Trafficking
https://adventistreview.org/news/what-seventh-day-adventists-can-do-about-sex-trafficking
Historic Milestones: Ending Systemic Abuse 🕊️
- Amy Carmichael (India) – Ending “Temple Prostitution” In the early 1900s, young girls in India were often “married” to the gods in Hindu temples—a euphemism for institutionalized sex slavery. Amy Carmichael founded the Dohnavur Mission after a seven-year-old girl named Preena escaped a temple and sought her help. Amy spent 55 years without a single furlough, rescuing over a thousand “temple children” and successfully lobbying for laws that eventually banned the practice.
- Testimony (Foot Binding): In the late 19th century, Christian missionaries in China argued that foot binding was a “distortion of God’s creation.” They formed the Anti-Foot Binding Society, refusing to allow girls with bound feet into mission schools. This created the first generation of “natural-footed” women, leading to the national ban in 1912.
“How Christians Ended Foot Binding in China” https://breakpoint.org/how-christians-ended-foot-binding-in-china/ - Mary Slessor (Nigeria) – Saving “Cursed” Twins In the Calabar region of Nigeria, twins were believed to be the offspring of evil spirits; they were often left in the bush to die or were brutally murdered. Mary Slessor, a Scottish missionary, lived among the people, adopted rescued twins into her own home, and changed the cultural narrative. Today, she is remembered as the “Mother of All the Peoples” for ending this infanticide.
- Across Southeast Asia, a multibillion-dollar sex-trade preys on the vulnerable. Meet Holly—once addicted and violent—saved by Jesus in prison, called to Asia, and now rescuing women and girls from traffickers. See how a “house of refuge” was born, how missionaries Victor & Eileen Marx helped bring safety and justice, and how survivors like Nora encountered a voice that said, “Child, get up.” This is more than a program—it’s the family of God, healing trauma and restoring hope. 🍎 3. The SDA “Truth Dividend”: A 26x Return
When we look at Seventh-day Adventists (SDA), the ROI jumps from the standard 3.39x to a staggering 25.94x because of unique biblical truths:
- The Health Dividend (ROI +12.30x):
**Biblical habits add 10–14 years to life (Fraser & Shavlik, 2001; https://doi.org/10.1001/archinte.161.13.1645)
**Biblical health habits (plant-based diet, exercise, temperance, etc.), can cut healthcare costs by 80%. This solves the “unpayable” $47 trillion global chronic disease bill. - Wealth Accrual: Healthy individuals often double their wealth by their 50s due to productivity and avoiding medical bankruptcy—the #1 cause of financial ruin.
- Brain Function: Biblical habits improve student grades by 20–50%, boosting lifetime earnings.
- The Tithe Dividend (ROI +3.75x): Families that give charitably earn $375 more for every $100 given due to shifts in financial discipline and social capital (Portfolio.com, 2007; https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/185662).
- The Missionary/Disaster/Justice Dividend (ROI +6.50x): As in section 2 above, the benefit from missionaries is incredibly profound (and is likely much higher than just 6.50x).
This also includes the fact that faith groups provide 80% of all disaster recovery. SDAs are world leaders in FEMA “warehousing” logistics (USA Today, 2017; https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/09/10/hurricane-irma-faith-groups-provide-bulk-disaster-recovery-coordination-fema/651007001/).
🗣️ Real Testimonies: The Human Face of the Data
- On Disaster Relief: “After the hurricane, FEMA was stuck in red tape, but the Adventists were already there with a warehouse full of water and diapers. They didn’t just give us stuff; they sat and listened to us.” — Survivor of Hurricane Harvey (USA Today, 2017; https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/09/10/hurricane-irma-faith-groups-provide-bulk-disaster-recovery-coordination-fema/651007001/).
- On Longevity & Health: “I was 100 lbs overweight and on 7 medications. After learning the SDA health principles, I lost the weight and my doctor took me off all meds. I have more energy at 70 than I did at 40.” — M. Mendenhall (NEWSTART Program Alumnus; https://www.newstart.com/results/).
“I was scheduled for triple bypass surgery with advanced heart disease. After three weeks on a biblical plant-based program, my chest pain vanished. I never had the surgery and am still active 15 years later.” — M.B. (Heart Disease Survivor) - On Saving Lives: “I was minutes away from suicide when I found a Bible tract in a phone booth. The hope of a God who cared about my future stopped me. Today I have a family and a career.” — J.D. (Testimony from It Is Written Ministries; https://itiswritten.com/stories/).
📊 The Final Math: SDA Total Impact
Using the “Health-Adjusted” Halo model derived from cohort research:
- Investment: $118,500,038
- Total Economic Value Generated: $2,488,588,841
- ENHANCED ROI: 21.0x – 26.0x
Conclusion: Churches that stick closest to the Bible—prioritizing health, justice, tithe, and community service—provide the most value.
To oppose these faith communities is to oppose the most effective solution to the world’s greatest crises.
