SHORT SUMMARY: News reports warning about the corona COVID-19 virus, its spread around the world and people dying from it have gone viral and are being constantly updated. We should use the highest caution with any virus that cause cause death since every life is precious to God and we as God’s children should care about all lives. There are in fact millions of viruses around you every day (https://www.livescience.com/61689-viruses-fall-from-sky.html), but God has created an incredibly sophisticated immune system that protects us against nearly all threats if we take care of it wisely according to his principles.

The news is filled with warnings about the dangers of the COVID-19 coronavirus and many doctors warn that because of its high infection rate and high mortality rate, millions of people could die. Some viruses are even worse, but this one is also very serious partly because people have not learned habits to make their immune systems strong, because many of their food sources have been contaminated and the vitamin/nutrient levels greatly reduced, and other reasons, etc.).

But there are very good and powerful simple solutions from God for this virus. Much of the medical advice focuses on isolation and disinfecting the environment around you. 10 ways to boost your immune system against the novel coronavirus COVID-19 by Dr. Van Dyken

There is very little peer reviewed research completed on how to stop the corona COVID-19 virus 100% yet (and a vaccine available for all is at least 12-18 months in the future according to doctors). But there is much research about ways to protect people best against most viruses and ones closely related to COVID-19. So these habits are highly likely to help protect against COVID-19 too.

The immune system has many sophisticated pathways and stages (that God designed to help you). But every stage depends heavily on the use of micro-nutrients. And all of these micro-nutrients come from plants.  So the worst thing to do is eating foods with low nutritional value (processed foods, fast foods, refined carbohydrates/sugars are harmful).

1) Sleep ~7+ hours–Sleep is crucial for immune system function. Sleeping less than 5 hours a night vs. more than 7 hours a night increased the risk of people getting colds by ~25%. Sleep at least 7 hours and take power naps.

2) Exercise Moderately–People who exercise moderately have fewer colds. During moderate exercise, immune cells circulate faster through the body and kill viruses faster. But don’t exercise over 90 minutes at high intensity.

3) Get Vitamin D: Many studies show that if you get 400-2000 IU of Vitamin D per day, you can prevent most viral infections.  So supplementing with 1000 IU per day is a good idea.

4) Get Vitamin C: A large systematic review of studies showed that 1-2 grams of vitamin C daily can reduce colds by 8-18%. Another study showed that taking 0.6-1 grams of vitamin C cut viral colds by 50%.

7) Eat Garlic:  Garlic has many things that strengthen your immunity.

You need ~180 mg of allicin a day in the study above. Cut or crush 3-5 garlic cloves to get this amount. Drink with water to make it go down more easily.

8) Eat Probiotics–both lactobacillus and bifidobacterium. Eat Sauerkraut, kimchi, miso and nato.

FACT 2)  COVID-19 IS MOST DANGEROUS TO PEOPLE WITH WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEMS (so build them up with God’s lifestyle habits) 
The Corona Virus, like most viruses, is dangerous mostly to those who have weak immune systems. This means that those who have bad health habits, are elderly, are overworked with not enough sleep, have lots of exposure to viruses when weak, etc. are the most vulnerable. 

Even in China, “The majority (81%) of these coronavirus disease cases were mild cases.”  

Dr. Nedley states that the corona virus is more serious than the flu. But its rate of death seems to be only ~1% (after initially being higher]. A number of other viruses are much more serious.

There certainly will be viruses in the future as well, some similarly dangerous to COVID-19 or even more so.  So again, the best way to protect people against viruses is to follow God’s health principles.

Dr. Michael Ryan, Executive Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program, stated that 
“China and Chinese scientists have performed probably the most rapid characterization of a novel pathogen in history, and that was shared immediately. Multiple sequences were shared immediately on global platforms.” and “China is doing the right things, and China is responding in a massive way….What I took away from that mission was the absolute, relentless and focused determination of the government of China to put the health of people in China ahead of anything else at this point, and to take what are significant economic and other hits in order to put the health of people first.”

Lee is the chairman of the Myongji Hospital in South Korea and leads the Korean Hospital Association’s new Coronavirus Emergency Response Headquarters and explains some treatments they use. He basically says that they: 
–continuously check medical data to deal with the problem effectively. (Korea has also tested a far higher percentage of people than almost any other nation to contain the virus.) 
–use negative pressure rooms (NPRs) to contain airborne contaminants 
–provide healthy meals and monitoring. 
–use fever reducers 
–For those having a hard time with the isolation, we provide bedside consultations and art programs such as bedside musical concerts. We treat patients psychologically and physically with daily consultations, tranquilizers, and sleeping pills, and provide special meals for those sick of eating hospital food.

Dr. Oz says that masks are mostly for stopping viruses from getting to sick people. Most won’t stop the corona virus. Only the n95 mask will, but you have to seal it perfectly for it to work.



Business Insider asked the Senior Director of NYC Health + Hospitals System-wide Special Pathogens Program and a professor of epidemiology at Columbia University to debunk 13 of the most common coronavirus myths (including why masks won’t help very much).

Many secular scientists have paid tribute to SDAs for saving many lives and improving the health of the world as a result. This isn’t because of anything special about SDAs. It’s because they take God’s health and diet principles in the Bible seriously, and these massively boost immunity and drastically reduce how many viruses/diseases they get. Scientists studied SDAs and shared what they learned in many countries. This has been a major factor in dramatically helping the health of the entire world, improving lifespans by decades.

To conclude, God’s health habits are far more valuable than we understand. Bad health habits cost the world ~$6.5 trillion a year.1 Just 5 major types of disease will cost the world $47 trillion in the next 20 years (enough money to eradicate poverty for ~2.5 billion people).2 For the US, NCDs like Mental health diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases will cost the US ~$94.9 trillion dollars between 2015-2050, ~$265,000 per person, or ~10.8% of all income.3   Health emergencies/crises are the #1 cause of bankruptcy.4 No wonder James Poterba, an MIT professor, says people can double their money by their 50s by following good health habits.5

NEWSTART has at least 12+ different benefits for life6. The UN (in the chart on the right) says that just avoiding smoking, avoiding alcohol, regular exercise, eating nutritious food and breathing fresh air could save over 35 million of the 41 million lives that are lost every year due to disease.  That’s NEWSTART!

This is a very insightful and grace based SDA pastor, pastor Jerry Arnold (who also knows the importance of God’s law, but not for earning salvation) that has a series of sermons that go into some depth on this topic. Many pastors have learned quite a lot from him.  He has a great series on the issue of “Can I Know that I am saved” which deals with many aspects of grace and law as well as why God allows us to go through hard times (#13) and others. # 3-8 are especially good).
